The Pocher Pagani Utopia Coupé is now available to buy in its stunningly beautiful Bianco Perla livery. To celebrate its release, we sat down with our lead engineer to look at what makes this such an exciting kit for premium modellers.

The same, but different

This is the second Pagani kit that we’ve produced, but you won’t have exactly the same building experience with this model. While there are a lot of the same components and steps in the process, the team listened to feedback from the first kit and made a few important tweaks. Lead engineer George talks us through the changes:

“Customer feedback is always important to us. We implemented several small design tweaks to improve part fitment and ease of assembly based on what builders told us about the original Utopia kit.

“This model is a refinement of our Pagani Utopia Coupé in Rinascimento Lucido, using the same core tooling as the first release with several subtle improvements to enhance fit and finish. It also features a completely redesigned instruction manual to make the build process clearer and more intuitive.

“The most noticeable upgrade is the intricate carbon fibre detailing, which has been meticulously applied to every model. This includes the roof, interior, engine bay, wheels, lights, and sills, giving the updated kit a far richer and exotic appearance.”

Kit components vs the real thing

Creating the most authentic replica is always important to Pocher designers, and they spend hours researching, measuring and adjusting components to ensure they get as close to the real thing as possible. However, compromises have to be made to recreate in 1:8 scale.

“Pagani were extremely supportive and granted us full access to the test vehicle, allowing detailed photography, measurement, and study of its engineering and materials, along with OEM CAD. This ensured the highest possible accuracy in the model.

“While the real Pagani consists of tens of thousands of individual components, a scale model must condense this into hundreds to remain practical for builders. Some internal structures and material choices have been simplified, but always in a way that preserves the overall authenticity and visual accuracy while ensuring the model remains enjoyable and feasible to assemble.”

The Pocher Pagani: a premium build experience

This may have been George’s second Pagani design, but he still encountered some challenges along the way. He also pointed out some parts of the build that he is especially proud of, and he thinks modellers will love.

“A major challenge was translating the complexity of the real Utopia, built from exotic materials and thousands of components, into a scale model that can be fully assembled using only screws, screwed in a normal fashion, no ratchets and 90-degree angles, and also using conventional modelling tools.

“The engine bay and interior are the true standouts. Both feature highly detailed components, intricate carbon fibre patterns, and numerous small parts that add depth and realism. Builders will appreciate the richness of these areas and the satisfaction of seeing them come together at 1:8 scale.

“The engine and bonnet assemblies are the most challenging areas, with some builders finding that careful fettling and test‑fitting can be helpful. As with any detailed model build, the best advice is to take your time, be precise, test‑fit regularly, and never force a part if something feels wrong”

Final Pocher notes

Thinking of taking on the Pagani challenge? These last few notes about the model might be the inspiration you need.

“This kit sits at the very top of the Pocher skill level scale. Its complexity, fine tolerances, and the precision required to assemble it accurately mirror the craftsmanship involved in building the real Pagani. Builders will need patience, time, and attention to detail to achieve the intended result.

“The kit includes a wide variety of materials, such as painted and clear hard plastic components, softer plastics for the tyres, seats, and interior details, and metal‑etched parts including seatbelt components and various fine trim pieces. These materials help achieve both durability and realism.

“Plus, there are several functional features, including working steering, opening doors, an opening engine bay, functional aero wing, opening bonnet, articulated suspension, and adjustable mirrors, bringing an interactive element to the build.”
